Accumulation of discarded rubber tires presents a critical environmental concern, exacerbated by their non-biodegradable nature and a staggering generation of approximately 1.7 billion units worldwide annually. The key environmental implications of tire disposal are discussed in this paper, including the risks of landfill overflow, fire hazard, soil contamination, and aggravation of environmental pollution instigated by the incineration of waste tires generating toxic fumes polluting the air and water. A strategy is proposed to overcome the challenges of waste tire accumulation by repurposing the material for railway infrastructure construction. A critical review is presented on the effectiveness of scrap tires in mitigating vibrations, enhancing track stability, and reducing environmental degradation associated with conventional construction materials. The paper also elucidates the multifaceted benefits of utilizing waste tires, including their cost-effectiveness, resilience, and compatibility with ground modification techniques. Key insights into the feasibility and challenges of integrating waste tires into railway infrastructure projects are also presented through a comprehensive analysis of the technical, economic, and environmental aspects, recommending guidelines for the effective valorization of scrap tires in sustainable railway construction practices.

摘要
