This article presents a detailed study that delves into the seismic behavior assessment of a self-constructed structure situated in the district of Villa El Salvador within the department of Lima, Peru. The performance evaluation entailed a Nonlinear Static Analysis (NSA) conducted through the Etabs software. The main objectives of this study encompass: (i) ascertaining the mechanical and geometrical characteristics of the building's structural elements via non-destructive testing and visual inspections, and (ii) estimating the seismic response utilizing the capacity curve corresponding to the specific case study and the Performance Matrix, as proposed by the Vision 2000 Committee, for varying levels of seismic activity including frequent, occasional, rare, and very rare earthquakes. The results of the NSA revealed that the subject of this study failed to meet the expected criteria for a conventional building, as outlined by the Vision 2000 Committee. These findings underscore the critical importance of assessing and improving the seismic resilience of structures in high-risk areas like Villa El Salvador, ultimately contributing to enhanced safety and disaster preparedness in the face of seismic events.
