While coronary angiography is a widely accepted technique to evaluate the coronary anatomy, this simple test has limitations. Recent studies have clarified that it is best supplemented by tools that evaluate both the physiology and detailed coronary anatomy. These new techniques that assess coronary physiology and anatomy as well as the coronary microcirculation have provided additional information that has been shown to impact patient outcomes.
