This chapter provides a comprehensive overview of subcontractor and vendor management within the construction industry. It begins with an overview of the construction industry and the role played by subcontractors and vendors. It then goes onto describing the current state for subcontractor selection, contracting, and managing subcontractors through the project (contract) lifecycle and the issues with the same. The chapter then proceeds to outline evolving and best practices of engaging with subcontractors through lean construction practices that improve the project outcomes. Finally, the chapter discusses the role of digitization in improving the collaboration between contractors and subcontractors. Coupled with lean construction and digitization and other evolving trends in the industry, the chapter discusses and concludes with how projects can be delivered better in Construction 4.0.
