The Construction Effectiveness and Practical Experience of the MOOC—“Information Literacy General Course: A Compulsory Course for Digital Survival ”

In recent years, information/digital literacy education have attracted increasing attention from so many countries around the world. With the rapid development of high-tech, people's educational environment is constantly changing, and traditional educational models are no longer able to meet the needs of the public's personal development and lifelong learning. Therefore, the construction of MOOCs is becoming increasingly popular. This article introduces the MOOC “Information Literacy General Course: A Compulsory Course for Digital Survival” developed by Prof. PAN, Yantao from the School of Information Management, Sun Yat-sen University. The MOOC constructs an information literacy education system and theoretical framework based on three real- life scenarios: life, study, and work, which is significantly different from other traditional information literacy education systems in China over the past 40 years. Since its establishment on the “China University MOOC” platform in 2017, the MOOC has attracted more than 250,000 students from more than 410 universities or social institutions in China to pay attention to and learn from it. The construction has achieved significant results and has received a huge response.
