With the development of social informatization and digitalization, the Internet of Things (IoT) has become an important direction for the future development of the mobile communication industry. As a result, the industry has established numerous IoT technology standards, such as enhanced Machine-Type Communication (eMTC), Narrow Band Internet of Things (NB-IoT), Reduced Capability (RedCap) 5G new air interface, and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), which can to some extent meet the low-cost and low-power consumption requirements of the IoT. In view of the “digital twin, ubiquitous intelligence” 6G vision and the “carbon peaking and carbon neutrality” goal, ultra-low power consumption, and even zero power consumption IoT solutions have become an important part of 6G research. This chapter will introduce the application scenarios, basic principles, and key technologies of backscatter communication technology for zero power communication.
