摘要

This chapter presents an overview of urban governance, service delivery, and citizen satisfaction in Bangladesh. It discusses governance structures, urbanization trends, and service delivery challenges. Urban governance includes formal institutions and informal networks, focusing on accountability, transparency, efficiency, and citizen participation. In Bangladesh, local government institutions like city corporations and municipalities operate under national policies, but central government control limits their autonomy. Multiple stakeholders—including government bodies, the private sector, and civil society, and citizens—shape service delivery. Although local bodies are responsible for essential services, financial and administrative constraints hinder performance. Service delivery combines government efforts, public–private partnerships, and community-based models. Key challenges include limited funding, bureaucratic inefficiencies, corruption, and digital gaps. However, opportunities exist through technological innovation, stronger governance frameworks, and increased citizen engagement, offering pathways for improved service delivery and satisfaction in urban governance.
