Strategies for Improving the Quality Factor of Coils
摘要
In a limited space, tightly wound coils are the main way to improve their quality factor. However, in IPT systems with relatively compact wound coil, parasitic capacitance can cause the coil to deviate from the pure inductance, destroy the resonant state of the compensation network, and increase system losses. There may be cases where the efficiency decreases when the amount of copper is increased. Previous research work has not paid attention to the dielectric loss caused by the low quality factor of parasitic capacitance. This chapter presents an accurate model of coil distribution parameters and reveals the mechanism of action of parasitic capacitance. Two solutions, single-turn segmented series compensation and single-layer segmented series compensation, are proposed to reduce the voltage stress of the parasitic capacitance and improve quality factor of coils and the transmission efficiency of LCT.
