Harnessing Gamification to Drive Green Product Purchase Intentions

Gamification as a mode for interaction in sustainable consumption has increased manifold in recent years. This study investigates the effect of gamification techniques on consumers’ purchase intentions for green products, and it provides insight into practical implications for encouraging sustainable consumption behaviors. Review of previous work in the same area by review of the literature, this paper discusses the key findings and trends in the study of gamification and green purchasing. The study shows that gamification elements that include challenges, points, leaderboards, and badges significantly influence consumers’ engagement with green products. Enjoyment and interaction become added elements into the purchasing process. Gamification also increases consumer awareness towards environmental issues and motivates them to consider sustainability factors when taking their buying decisions. Behavioral incentives through gamification influence consumers to pick environment-friendly products over more conventional ones. Sustainable consumer behavior by offering virtual rewards, discounts, or social recognition can be promoted by using a gamified experience. Gamification is in line with experiential marketing principles, which stress the importance of making an impression on consumers through interactive and captivating brand experiences. In driving consumer awareness towards sustainable products and if it influences their purchase decision. The study was conducted on a sample of 102 respondents using the theory of planned behavior. The study reveals that gamification can affect consumers’ opinions about eco-friendly products. Gamification can be used to encourage sustainable consumption habits by using social influence, engagement, education, incentives in today’s environmentally conscious market.
