Increasing urbanization has elevated the concern for ensuring that urbanites have a satisfactory standard of living. Governments across the globe encounter various obstacles, including but not limited to energy consumption, traffic congestion, public transportation infrastructure, healthcare provision, and community security and disaster preparedness. In this respect, the Internet of Things (IoT) is a transformative force, substantially impacting the administration and control of urban areas across the globe. The automation capability of IoT systems can substantially support managing natural disasters. The notion of smart cities is progressively becoming more prevalent in contemporary IoT applications owing to the amenities and conveniences it affords urban residents. IoT endows objects with intelligence and automation to analyze various data types, enabling the prediction of certain events. This results in the generation of timely responses to any event and even the proposal of optimal human responses, which is an exceptionally effective method of disaster management. Thus, the current study examines the various IoT tools accessible in smart cities for disaster preparedness. The research integrates the application of Smart Detection Techniques, which encompass sensors including gyroscopes and accelerometers, GPS, analogue-to-digital converters, decision-making algorithms for distinguishing or identifying seismic waves, and user interface applications for alert or notification systems. These components significantly contribute to the provision of the most effective solutions in the case of a catastrophe. Sensors are implemented in urban areas through wireless connectivity so decision-makers can remotely access and control these devices. This paper presents a conceptual framework for efficient disaster management in smart cities through IoT techniques that facilitate the generation of timely information regarding impending disasters. The study concludes that timely identification of perilous circumstances can alert decision-makers, who can then utilize the data to inform decisions that save lives and mitigate the additional consequences of disasters.
