Geriatric Psychiatry in Nepal
摘要
The population of Nepal is rapidly ageing and the prevalence of mental health disorders among the ageing population is high. There is limited expertise and access to geriatric mental health services with a huge treatment gap which makes it a rapidly emerging concern. This area remains significantly under-researched as well. When compared to the past there has been some improvement in the mental health care of the elderly population, however, much more needs to be done. By raising awareness, advocating for policy changes, and investing in research and training, we can work towards improving the mental health and well-being of older adults in this rapidly ageing nation. In this chapter, we aim to discuss the epidemiology of mental health disorders, available services, policies, and action plans, challenges, and ways out for geriatric mental health in Nepal.
