Swine zoonoses which are diseases transmitted to pigs from humans are a major cause of concern to both veterinary as well as public health. These illnesses and the prevention of their occurrence require early diagnosis and treatment. Diagnostic methods for swine zoonoses are as diverse as the zoonoses themselves and include sample testing to advanced molecular techniques. We have used routine diagnosis methods for the identification of pathogens such as histopathology of tissues, culture techniques of the sample and ELISA test. However, these techniques may be time-consuming and require a lot of workforces and they can sometimes be too general. Molecular diagnostics do therefore become a potent technique to overcome these limitations. Quick and precise identification of zoonotic disease diagnosis and effective treatment of these diseases are possible because of methods such as real-time PCR, Next Generation Sequencing (NGS), PCR, etc. It also looks into other new technologies such as the CRISPR-Cas systems that have brought about labelled point-of-care testing. These methods give rapid, reliable, and portable results needed in identifying, and containing early and prevalent diseases affecting swine, thus reducing human exposure.
