Numerical Investigation on the Effect of Using Black Dye in Water of a Single-Slope Solar Still Connected to an Air Cooler
摘要
In this work, authors numerically investigated the effect of adding dye in water of solar still coupled with an air cooler. The cold water from cooler tank is allowed to flow over cover of solar still fed with dye mixed water. Cold water helps to reduce the temperature of cover whereas the dye mixed with water helps to enhance the solar radiation absorbed by water. This helps to enhance the overall temperature difference between glass cover and basin water of solar still. Authors numerically computed the performance of the proposed solar still for Raipur climate. It is seen that the total daily distillate output of the proposed still is 6.318 L/m2 for a typical day in summer. The total daily distillate output from the solar still coupled with cooler without dye is 5.695 L/m2. The increase in the daily distillate output is about 10.9% more when the solar still coupled with cooler is fed with dye mixed water.
