A lead-acid battery electrolyte is a corrosive liquid. Its density is an important parameter to reflect the amount of electricity remaining in the lead-acid battery. This paper aims at the problems of fast, accurate, and online measurement of corrosive liquid density. Based on the principle of low-energy γ-ray penetration absorption and the radionuclide method, a γ-ray density detector for storage battery is designed. The working principle and design method of density detector for storage battery are described in detail. The experimental results show that the root-mean-square error of the positive and negative poles of the battery density detector is ± 0.26%, which meets the practical requirements.
