Over time, documentation techniques have undergone substantial evolution, transitioning from traditional to digital, with the advancements in technology. Many practitioners in India still rely on traditional 2D methods due to hesitations about new technology, lack of resources, and affordability. This paper aims to develop best practices for cultural heritage documentation by studying eight case studies and deriving guidelines for similar cases. In particular, this study proposes pragmatic digital techniques for heritage documentation of historical buildings, emphasising task complexity, object complexity, digital systems requirements, required digital tools, implementation challenges, and utility.
