Designing Sustainable Action: Identification of Requirements of a Green Credit Platform for Incentivizing Eco-Friendly Activities
摘要
Government of India recently announced Green Credit Program (GCP), under the “LiFE”—“Lifestyle for Environment” movement—which was primarily introduced to combat climate change and encourage individuals and organizations to practice environment friendly activities, which can be incentivized in the form of Green Credits. Designing effective environmental programs involves a deep understanding of user needs, motivations, and perceptions. This study covers the potential of Green Credit Program (GCP) in India by combining stakeholder surveys with expert interviews. A survey of 122 participants was conducted to assess awareness, understanding and concerns regarding the GCP among the general population of India. Additionally, eight expert interviews provided insights into the current state of the GCP, execution challenges and most important features for application design. Research findings revealed varying levels of awareness about GCP. Results highlighted the importance of clear communication and individual benefits to increase user engagement on the GCP platform. Users expressed preferences for programs focusing on tree plantation, solar energy, waste management, water conservation, community involvement, and transparent reporting of activities responsible for environmental impacts. Expert interviews uncovered the need for a streamlined user experience, quantification of activities to grant green credits and diligent verification processes. These findings offer valuable inferences for sustainable practices. The design of the Green Credit Platform ought to include user-friendly interface, educational elements regarding environmental benefits, and a clear emphasis on the positive impacts of individual actions. Rigorous data collection and verification will be crucial for maintaining program credibility. This research also provides direction for future studies. Explorations into effective communication strategies to increase GCP awareness in a country are much needed. Also, evaluating long-term user engagement and the potential user behavioral changes promoted by GCP participation should be prioritized. The findings provide a sound basis for the development of Green Credit Platforms.
