Sustaining Artistry: Customer Perceptions and Economic Resilience in Sawantwadi Wooden Toy Craft
摘要
The wooden toy industry of Sawantwadi, Maharashtra, reflects the region’s cultural heritage but faces the challenge of providing sustainable livelihoods to artisan families. This research paper reviews customer perceptions as a strategy to sustain artisanal production, examining the myriad touchpoints of color, material, buying experience, choice availability, cost, packaging, variety, and overall customer satisfaction that need to be optimized to sustain economic resilience in the community. Customer surveys and face-to-face interviews were conducted to unravel how traditional craft skills choreograph Sawantwadi wooden toys. The interplay of color and materials is scrutinized for its impact, carving out a “Sawantwadi” niche for these wooden toys. The power of the buy experience to earn customer loyalties is evaluated, as well as whether tailored assistance, convenience, and simplicity assist in their (re)production. The significance of choice availability and how cost influences customer perceptions is then unpicked, while the role of packaging in customer perception is similarly considered. Finally, the paper looks at the importance of variety in customer satisfaction. Customer attitudes toward sustainable and eco-friendly practices are assessed for the paper alongside these traditional measures of output, and the paper concludes with practical recommendations for Sawantwadi wooden toy businesses to adapt and prosper in a rapidly changing market that is progressively moving beyond the purely financial. This paper is, therefore, primarily concerned with facilitating the sustainable socioeconomic development of the artisanal business of the region as a means for preserving traditional craft skills and their transmission to future generations within the community. In conclusion, by acknowledging the artisan’s efforts, Sawantwadi toys’ market visibility needs to be improved in order to meet consumer desires in categories such as puzzles and moving toys, among others.
