This paper presents a thorough documentation of the intricate process involved in the development of 100% hand-spun Grewia Optiva fabric, from the initial fiber sourcing to the final fabric formation. Grewia Optiva found in Uttarakhand, a versatile fiber derived from the stem of the Grewia Optiva tree, holds significant promise as a sustainable and culturally significant material for handicrafts. Through a combination of traditional techniques of weaving with modern design patterns the potential of Grewia Optiva yarn is explored to create exquisite textiles that embody both heritage and innovation. The journey from fiber to fabric begins with the careful selection and preparation of Grewia Optiva fibers, which involves identifying trees, harvesting fibers, and de gumming process to remove impurities from the fibers. Traditional hand-spinning methods by Bhotiya Communities are then employed to transform these fibers into yarns, with artisans utilizing various spinning tools and techniques to achieve the desired texture and strength. The weaving process follows, where skilled craftsmen and women from Bhotiya community use handloom to create hand-spun fabric. Three samples were developed from 100% Grewia Optiva Fiber named A, B, and C. Possibility of using every sample was explored. By shedding light on the intricate process of transforming raw fibers into fabric, this work not only highlights the rich cultural heritage associated with hand-spun textiles but also covers the way for future innovation and collaboration in the area of sustainable fashion and textile design.
