Why There Are Challenges in Textile Waste Management? An Empirical Investigation on the Consumer Perspective
摘要
Textile waste poses significant challenges to environmental sustainability, particularly within the fashion industry where rapid cycles of production and consumption contribute to its proliferation. This empirical research paper delves into the multifaceted reasons behind the persistent shortcomings in curbing textile waste and shedding light on its detrimental impacts on the environment. The study identifies fashion waste as a primary concern, pinpointing its adverse effects on environmental sustainability. Major contributors to textile waste were examined, revealing the complex interplay of consumer behaviour, industry practices, and supply chain inefficiencies. The research discusses the effective measures that mitigate its adverse effect on the environment by analysing the problems associated with the textile waste. The data was collected to understand respondents’ awareness level and perspective on textile waste management. The paper advocates for user-centric measures tailored to address consumer behaviour and preferences, recognizing the pivotal role of individuals in reducing textile waste. These measures encompass education, awareness campaigns, and incentivizing sustainable consumption practices. However, despite the availability of measures, the research uncovers significant challenges associated with their adoption and implementation. Barriers such as cost considerations, lack of infrastructure, and resistance to change hinder the widespread adoption of solutions aimed at reducing textile waste. In conclusion, this empirical research offers valuable insights into the complexities surrounding textile waste and the obstacles impeding effective waste reduction efforts. By addressing these challenges and fostering collaborative action between stakeholders, progress towards a more sustainable future can be achieved.
