The manufacturing sector is simplifying and transforming to stay up with industry standards, demand and competition. The emergence and development of additive manufacturing technology have resulted in a revolution in the manufacturing sector. With the increasing popularity of desktop 3D printers, prototyping and manufacturing setups have become more accessible to the broader population. 3D Printing broadens the possibilities for customization of products based on individual demands. The ability to manufacture complicated designs and realize their physical shape without needing a mould-making process has popularized this technique for rapid prototyping and market-ready items made from a broad range of materials. Metal, ceramic, paper, polymer, carbon fibre and resin are some of the most commonly used materials for 3D Printing. With the growing use of 3D Printing in numerous design domains, the emphasis is turning towards printing using sustainable materials to make the prototyping process eco-friendly. Prints made from recycled plastics, biodegradable polymers and plant-based materials are increasingly becoming popular. Natural resins, as potential substitutes for conventional printing materials, have a low environmental impact and can be widely used in 3D Printing. The present research focuses on the breadth and possibilities of employing Lac, an insect-based natural resin, in additive manufacturing applications. Improvisation in the tools and parts of conventional 3D printers is recommended based on studies and trials conducted for the potential use of Lac as a print material.
