Design Intervention to Explore the Outdoor Park Convenience of Elderly in Western Ahmedabad
摘要
Inclusive public parks have an essential role in enhancing inclusion and social participation among senior citizens. While going outdoors contributes to participation and well-being, senior citizens often avoid going outdoors because of deteriorating health. Current study investigates issues related to benches in outdoor parks, specially focusing on improving the convenience of seating for senior citizens. By identifying key challenges such as accessibility, comfort, and safety, this initiative aims to propose solutions that cater to the unique needs of older adults through ergonomic design principles. The study aims at context specific design and development to address the challenges that prevent users with physical limitations like suffering from neck pain, joint pain, back pain, and arthritis from using outdoor park seatings. The study involves rapport building and contextual enquiry as a user research method. The study was conducted using convenience sampling in urban parks around west Ahmedabad.
