The essence of cultural heritage is deeply rooted in historical, cultural, and religious origins, holding significant value for society, community, and nation as it embodies the distinctive past of the region. Among the provinces in Northeast India, Assam has a unique history of temple buildings dating from the Gupta period onwards, although many of the early temples have either completely disappeared or are in a dilapidated condition. The Hayagriva Madhava temple, constructed by the Koch king in the sixteenth century CE, stands in Hajo, Assam. Within its premises lie a notable array of temple relics, stone figurines and rock sculptures, which unfortunately have significantly deteriorated in recent decades. This study focused on the Hayagriva Madhava temple as the research area. The objectives were addressed through comprehensive literature reviews aimed at understanding the design requirements within the context of cultural heritage and digital preservation. Additionally, primary data were collected through site assessments, personal interviews, and a questionnaire survey. The study specifically explored the use of interactive 360 virtual tours, integrating interactive 3D contents and audio–video visuals to enhance public engagement with cultural heritage sites. Finally, a proposed model was developed for a 360-degree virtual tour map of the monuments and their surroundings, facilitating users and visitors to easily navigate and search for specific points. The tour includes various interactive elements that enable users to further explore temple and architectural information beyond physical constraints. In conclusion, this paper outlines the challenges of application and provides recommendations for further research in this domain.
