Extension of the Persona Method Based on Its Potential for Sustainable Product Development
摘要
Integrating sustainability into product development is the process of considering the environmental impact of products at all stages of design, production, and distribution. This can be achieved through a variety of methods, but only a few help with a strategic and at the same time emotional alignment of a project or a project team to a sustainability-related task. Personae can be a useful method for shaping the implementation of sustainability in companies, as they can be used to direct the focus of product development in an empathetic and inspiring way. However, the persona method is not yet entirely suitable for integrating sustainability in a product development in a targeted manner. Environment-oriented personae can help developers to consider aspects such as the environmental impact of the products to be developed. In addition, the integration of sustainability into the development of new products can improves the company's competitive advantage. Small development teams and medium-sized enterprises prefer methods that are easy to apply and quick to implement. This is primarily due to fewer resources and often a lack of expertise. In this contribution, approaches are developed on how sustainability aspects can be integrated into the creation of a personae by means of an alignment with methods already described in the literature and tested in practice. In addition, approaches are proposed on how the method can be applied in other ways to direct a strategic focus on the sustainability of a product development.
