Understanding energy sources such as solar, wind, and other clean energy innovations and off-grid renewable solutions for energy access in developing regions is critical in fostering proper renewable techniques. To ensure progress is happening and the sub-projects are affordable and clean energy productive, it is essential to set up a monitoring framework with key performance indicators. These indicators should be quantitative in measure, specific, and be formulated where possible to guide the intelligent water management projects in terms of application, operation, and its related associates. Some of the indicators should monitor the impact of the farmers’ economy in relation to energy consumption. The limitations to evaluating impacts are substantial: evaluating the impact of changing a single or a few features without accounting for the entire complexity may not be fulfilling. Many of the existing on-farm evaluation studies are more experimental than representative. The result is usually not as robust as the conducting of a field survey that collects extensive information. However, an urgent need for a culture of accountability, transparency, and committed reporting on results in the intervention world is critical. Such commitments will enable appropriate refinements or changes in strategy and, in the end, sustainability.
