SDG 13: Climate Action—Technology for Climate Resilience and Mitigation

Sudden and intense climate change effects are disrupting natural systems. This has a direct consequence on all societies such as the ever-increasing climatic events such as hurricanes and heatwaves are endangering the overall health and well-being of populations. The poor communities are most vulnerable to climate variations. In essence, nations worldwide have resolved to ensure sustainable management practices using technological sustainability in climate modeling and disaster management, renewable energy, and carbon capture technologies. A number of protocols and international treaties have been established to safeguard natural capital. The overriding goal of this coordinated action is to ensure that environmental sustainability is achieved, as discussed. Arguably, climate actions have the potential to usher in a pathway to sustainable development. This SDG aims to take urgent action within the confines of a strengthened global partnership to address climate change, emphasizing that no one should be left behind. The urgency of climate change responses can never be overstated for two key reasons. Climate change holds that a collective international action to peak the net CO2 emissions has already begun. The aim is to attempt to limit climate change to 1.5 ℃. To this end, technology deployment will be essential. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has also underscored the need to update and transform the use of technology in order to mitigate and adapt to the probable devastating impacts of climate change. Equally, climate actions are at the center of global, national, and local policy agendas to combat environmental injustice and inequality. Various global reports also indicate the need for diversified ambition. Therefore, a global effort is required to transform present technologies to those with lower greenhouse gas emissions.
