The Current Scenario of Cybercrime and Its Challenges in India, and a Proposed Model for Checking Website Vulnerability
摘要
India’s digital transformation has proven beneficial as it fuels both social and economic development. Advancement in technology, com- medication as well as digital services are at an all-time high. Sadly, in a bid to enhance growth, India has suffered an unfortunate side effect of increased cybercrime. Offenses such as hacking, online fraud, identity theft, ransomware attacks, data breaches and phishing are becoming increasingly common, largely due to the increasing use of smartphones and ‘ease of use’ that they bring. One major reason for the growing concern of cybercrime is the general ignorance revolving around security practices as well as poor policy making related to cybersecurity. This ultimately renders a wide array of people very prone to being targeted by online criminals. Moreover, numerous law enforcement agencies are deficient in the requisite tools and technical expertise necessary to effectively address these crimes. Given that cybercrime represents a worldwide challenge, the enforcement of jurisdictional laws proves to be less effective in addressing the issue. The Indian Government has implemented measures to handle these challenges by establishing initiatives like the National Cyber Security Policy and creating specialized agencies, including the various cyber awareness program for society, senior citizens, youth in the various colleges and schools.
