India is a signatory to conventions of biodiversity conservation as well as land degradation neutrality. The policy efforts and practices related to these conventions need synthesis at implementation level, as they are interrelated. In spite of government’s efforts, there is a steady loss of biodiversity and also an increase in land degradation. The Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KM-GBF) provides an opportunity for linking the efforts at biodiversity conservation with land degradation neutrality. There are seven global targets of the KM-GBF that have linkages with land degradation neutrality, and actions required to achieve those targets are elaborated in the chapter. The suggested actions include attention to tenurial issues in northeast India, where the biodiversity loss and forest degradation are high, introduction of land and water use planning in the northwest, improvement of dryland agriculture, enrichment and densification of open forests, protection of wetlands, elimination of invasives and a thrust on agroforestry.
