Bridging Horizons: Global Biodiversity Framework and Land Degradation Neutrality
摘要
The interconnected crises of biodiversity loss, land degradation, and climate change threaten planetary health, food security, and human well-being. These challenges, driven by unsustainable human activities and intensified by climate variability, form a feedback loop that exacerbates their impacts. This chapter explores the roles of the Kunming Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) and Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN) principles in addressing these crises. It highlights their interlinkages and potential for integrated actions to mitigate biodiversity loss, combat land degradation, and achieve climate change mitigation goals. While the GBF sets ambitious targets to halt biodiversity loss, LDN focuses on sustainable land management to reverse degradation through flagship initiatives like the Great Green Wall and the Loess Plateau Restoration. The chapter demonstrates how these frameworks can transform degraded landscapes, stimulate biodiversity increase, and enhance climate change resilience. It identifies gaps in the LDN principles, particularly in its application and effectiveness, and provides recommendations to strengthen its impact. Recognizing the synergy between GBF and LDN is crucial in achieving sustainable development goals, biodiversity conservation, and enhanced ecosystem functions. The chapter advocates for unified policy frameworks, integrated approaches, and robust international collaboration to offset biodiversity loss and land degradation for a sustainable and prosperous future for all.
