Forensic psychiatry is a neglected entity in Bangladesh. There is no certified forensic psychiatrist or available specialized training in the domain, even though a high prevalence of psychiatric disorders among prisoners has been revealed. There are only 15 inpatient beds for forensic psychiatry in the country. The prisons are overcrowded, and there is no prison mental health system. No psychiatrist or psychologist visits the prison to provide mental health services. We do not have regular data on prison suicide in Bangladesh. In this chapter, we discussed historical aspects of mental health legislation, epidemiology and burden of mental disorders among prisoners, the current status of prison mental health services, liaison between law enforcement and mental health service providers, available research and gaps, current challenges in prison mental health, and ways out.
