This chapter discusses the pathways to make the Indo-Pacific region climate-neutral, including sustainability within the transport and energy sectors and communications. Thus, the overall purpose of the chapter is to critically evaluate current practices within the region, define specific impediments to attaining sustainable systems, and, more importantly, suggest possible tactical approaches to overcoming such constraints. Based on the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach, this chapter adheres to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic and Meta-Analytics (PRISMA) protocol to identify the relevant literature and organise the research using the Population, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome (PICO) criteria. The findings showcase a portfolio of challenges unique to the Indo-Pacific region, including the overreliance on fossil energy, technology and infrastructure deficits, and policy bifurcation, but highlight opportunities in renewable energy, electric vehicles (EVs), and green information and communication technology. The evaluated ‘case studies’ highlighted lessons learned on governmental policy, technological advancement, and international cooperation. The implications highlight that attaining carbon neutrality in the context of the Indo-Pacific will require synergy in policies, new funding schemes, and digital solutions for the sectoral decarbonisation of these economies.
