Regardless of the dazzling contributions of existing studies on Africa’s quest to actualizing sustainable peace, there is a greater need to re-engage the discourse about the possibility or impossibility of the actualization of the STG Agenda. This has become imperative given the centrality of the AU STG Agenda to its 2063 long-term development goal and the fact that it is barely six years past the set deadline. Relying on secondary sources, this study attempts to raise an important question which bothers around “Six Years to the Deadline, Would the Africa Union be able to actualize the Silencing the Guns Deadline?”. Given that member countries form the nucleus of the AU STG Agenda, the AU should direct its attention to addressing those salient domestic security challenges in these countries that have impeded the peace process. Admittedly, while it is expedient to always put in place a time frame to actualize goals, as currently done by the AU, this study concludes that the current deadline of 2030 seems unattainable. Hence, the AU needs to re-strategize by doubling its efforts at looking inward at those structural challenges that trigger insecurity among member countries to provide a more purposeful means of addressing them and thereafter transform into the option of setting out a more realistic deadline towards silencing the guns in Africa.
