Communication is foundational to human interaction, relationships, driving the evolution of life, collaboration, and connection. For speech-disabled individuals, the ability of expressing oneself is severely hindered resulting in frustration, isolation, and the feeling of lack. This paper explores transformative technology namely the smart gloves delving into its innovative potential of enabling the individuals with speech impairments to convey their thoughts, ideas, and emotions with ease by translating the sign language gestures into speech or text which can be understood by the hearing individuals without any ambiguity. We examine this ingenious smart glove technology incorporating components such as flex sensors and accelerometers for detecting hand movements, alongside advanced neural networks for gesture recognition. Furthermore, we discuss the bluetooth connectivity facilitating seamless communication among the gloves and the mobile applications. A critical examination of the performance of these smart glove systems uncovers both strengths and drawbacks, especially concerning accuracy, speed, and energy consumption. Additionally, we focus on significant difficulties and roadblocks, financial accessibility, and recognition errors. To upgrade the effectiveness and user experience (UX), we propose strategies to enhance senor accuracy, refining machine learning algorithms and employing modular designs to reduce costs. In conclusion, this review underscores the potential of these glove systems empowering non-verbal individuals by improving their quality of life, fostering inclusivity, and greater community engagement, thereby building confidence and a strong sense of identity in the speech-abled individuals.
