The emergence of the Internet facilitated the convenient access to digital material such as image, video, and audio. Facilitated access to multimedia engenders challenges including copyright protection, ownership identification, security, and content authentication. This paper examines digital image watermarking, emphasizing the techniques utilized for watermark insertion and extraction. This study presents a comprehensive classification along with the fundamental properties of digital watermarking, specifically visual imperceptibility, resilience, capacity, and security. Additionally, we have examined the contemporary applications of digital watermarking. The resilience is assessed by analyzing the impact about image processing assaults on the authenticated content as well as the ability to be recovered of its watermark. Extensive survey provided in this study will assist novice researchers in acquiring expertise in this field. Moreover, the comparative study can inspire enhancements to the previously discussed methodologies.
