Sudan is experiencing a series of complex crises that require careful balancing between Silencing the Guns (STG), economic progress, social development, and environmental conservation. The conflict has resulted in displacement across the country and a deterioration of the humanitarian needs nationwide and beyond. As for methodology, documentary research was used to collect relevant data to answer the core research questions. I collected informative data through the study of official and academic documents from reliable sources, which were used to develop an informed knowledge on the subject. This chapter aims at demonstrating that warring factions have violated STG, hampered the democratic aspirations of millions of Sudanese, worsened the economic crisis and increased the country’s vulnerability to ill-intentioned external actors. The key findings indicate that existing peace efforts have failed to make any meaningful progress due to the involvement of outside actors in the conflict. Although the goal of STG was to end deadly conflicts across the continent, the Sudan predicament epitomises the prevalence of violent conflicts. As a result of continued warfare, Sudan faces several socio-economic and political challenges that undermine its state building and sovereignty. Altogether and by large, due to its strategic proximity with the Red Sea, foreign interventions fuel state failure and socio-economic decay. Sudan’s economy has suffered from rising budget deficit, economic slowdown, and indebtedness. In socio-economic terms, the conflict has destroyed the national fabric, halted the country’s growth prospects and failed to address Sudan’s peace and democratic challenges. Having regard to Sudan’s geostrategic economic position, ending the armed conflict is crucial for the regional balance of power in the Horn of Africa.

摘要
