Revitalizing Multilateral Cooperation for Lasting Conflict Resolution: Harnessing International Treaties to Achieve ‘Silencing the Gun’ in Africa

The African continent has faced challenges, with conflicts that have impeded its economic progress and stability. To address these issues initiatives like the African Union’s ‘Silencing the Gun’ campaign have been implemented to promote peace and security. However, finding solutions to conflict resolution remains a task. This study delves into the potential of multilateralism and international agreements in advancing the objectives of the ‘Silencing the Gun’ initiative in Africa. By examining existing research, international agreements, and real-life examples this research explores how multilateralism can encourage collaboration among nations and global stakeholders for conflict resolution. It also assesses the effectiveness of agreements in preventing conflicts and fostering peace across the continent. The study identifies challenges and opportunities within the approach to conflict resolution offering policy suggestions to enhance multilateral mechanisms and maximize the impact of international agreements. Through addressing these issues this research aims to contribute towards developing durable and efficient strategies for attaining peace and security, in Africa.
