In this work, an assembly sequence generation for an industrial product is obtained using a genetic algorithm. The assembly sequence generation problem is formulated as an optimization criterion, and an evolutionally algorithm is implemented to find the optimal result. For each generated sequence, design for assembly attributes is checked for its feasibility. The developed strategy is implemented on a five-part product, and the results demonstrate that the genetic algorithm can effectively generate an optimal solution to assemble the product in an appropriate sequence while satisfying the assembly attributers. Further, it is observed that the generated assembly sequence reduces the overall time for executing assembly operation while improving the efficiency of the assembly process.
