The choice of hydrogen storage method is contingent upon the application, which considers a variety of issues including compliance with energy density requirements, safety concerns, and compatibility with existing infrastructure. To address the issues that are now being faced and to enhance the efficiency of technologies that are used to store hydrogen, researchers are continuing their investigation and development of novel materials and processes. As a gas that is both light and extremely combustible, hydrogen storage technologies are essential for its efficient transportation and storage. The low energy density and the necessity to avoid leakage are two of the specific problems with hydrogen storage that have prompted the development of several solutions. Many important technologies for storing hydrogen will be covred in this Chapter: Compressed Hydrogen, Liquid Hydrogen, Metal Hydrides Hydrogen Storage, Chemical Hydrogen Storage, Carbon-Based Materials, Porous Materials, and Underground Storage.
