An Application to Subjective Fuzzy State Involving Soft More General Class of Linear Octagonal Fuzzy Numbers

A More General Class of Linear Octagonal Fuzzy Numbers was introduced by Arumica and Kennedy (Glob Stochas Anal 11(2):11–27, 2024) in 2023 and have learnt several applications in operations research problems. In 2019, soft linear octagonal fuzzy number valued information system was introduced by two of the authors (Arul Roselet Meryline and Kennedy in Recent Trends Parallel Comput 6:37–48, 2019) and employed it as a tool in modeling imprecise in-depth information. Quantification of subjective fuzzy quantities described using appropriate fuzzy numbers play an important role in capturing and studying the nature of the information available in hand. One such subjective fuzzy quantity is subjective age (age identity) and a decision making problem related to the same is of interest in the field of Psychology. In this paper, we introduce Soft More General Class of Linear Octagonal Fuzzy Numbers (SMGLOFN) and study their arithmetic operations, measure and apply the same to solve a decision making problem. A primary data is collected from working middle-aged women and men in the educational sector, information technology and non-working middle-aged individual’s. Their responses are quantified using appropriate SMGLOFNs which is used to determine the age identity level between these groups in a soft fuzzy environment.
