This chapter extends our understanding from a cup of coffee to the ocean. A cup of coffee serves as a miniature representation of the experimental configuration of the ocean for explaining the geophysical fluids on Earth. The density of seawater, density-driven circulation, Coriolis effects resulting from the rotation of the Earth, and ocean circulation driven by pressure gradients and frictional forces will be discussed.

摘要

This chapter extends our understanding from a cup of coffee to the ocean. A cup of coffee serves as a miniature representation of the experimental configuration of the ocean for explaining the geophysical fluids on Earth. The density of seawater, density-driven circulation, Coriolis effects resulting from the rotation of the Earth, and ocean circulation driven by pressure gradients and frictional forces will be discussed.
