Urban Circularity Challenges Via Nature-Based Solution
摘要
Urban regions are centers of environmental stress, suffering from resource depletion, waste generation, water management inefficiencies and climate change. Advancing urban circularity is a system centered on resource efficiency, waste minimization, and ecosystem integration—is crucial for achieving sustainable urban development. Nature-based solutions (NBS) offer these solutions in an innovative, multifunctional manner. Nature-based solutions (NBS), such as green roofs, wetlands, urban forests, and permeable pavements, leverage natural ecological processes to restore ecological balance and address critical urban challenges including water management, nutrient recovery, and energy efficiency. These approaches also enhance resilience and support the sustainable regeneration of resources. Implementing NBS in urban development planning boosts the socioeconomic sustainability of cities by alleviating environmental challenges, improving adaptation, and increasing resilience. This chapter underscores the potential of NBS in transforming urban systems into adaptive, inclusive, and sustainable environments aligned with circular economy principles.
