Fabrication of Thermoformable Polymer Composite Using Biobased Materials
摘要
Polymer composites are widely used in various industrial applications owing to their very attractive thermomechanical properties. Thermoset polymers are naturally crosslinked, which is why they cannot be reshaped, recycled, or reprocessed once it is cured. It raises environmental concerns because as the usage of such polymers is increasing each year, the accumulation of this plastic waste is also reaching its peak. This thermoset behavior can be altered by introducing dynamic covalent bonds in the crosslinked polymer chains. This study aims to fabricate low-cost thermoformable polymers by functionalizing biobased materials with silane coupling agents and dynamic covalent bonds. These functionalized biobased materials are used as dynamic hardeners in the epoxy system to induce thermoformability after the specimens are heated to a specific temperature.
