A numerical study was performed for the power-law-based non-Newtonian fluid flow around the rectangular cylinder at Reynolds Number (Re) = 40. Simulations were carried out for four-cylinder aspect ratios (α = 1, 2, 5, and 10) and five power-law indices (n = 0.6, 0.8, 1, 1.2, and 1.4). The flow domain is simulated using FVM technique. The largest bubble length was noticed for cylinder (α = 1) for shear-thickening fluid (n = 1.4). The bubble length increased as the power-law index increased for each aspect ratio. The flow characteristics were significantly affected by varying n for each α. The cylinder with lower α resulted in a high vorticity wake region. Viscous drag (CDv) increased by 164.61% for n, varying from 0.6 to 1.4. However, no significant change in pressure drag (CDp) was observed with varying n for each AR. Total drag (CD) increased with an increase in α and n. The cylinder with lower α showed higher dependency on n than the high α cylinder.
