Advanced Thermal Management Strategies for Fuel Cells: Techniques and Applications

Fuel cells require precise thermal control for peak performance and durability, and this paper reviews the unique use of fuel cell application therein. This article investigates the heat generation mechanisms inside fuel cells and provides a comprehensive analysis of recent work on advanced cooling techniques and thermal interface materials to maximize efficiency while ensuring long-term survivability. This review highlights advancements in heat transfer and thermal management for fuel cells, focusing on their role in enhancing energy efficiency, sustainability, and system reliability. Key findings include advanced cooling methods such as nanofluids, phase change materials (PCMs), and thermoelectric cooling, with specific applications in electronics, automotive, aerospace, and power generation sectors. The study also emphasizes innovations like microchannel heat exchangers and thermal interface materials for improved temperature uniformity and hotspot suppression. Practical insights into fuel cell thermal management and emerging technologies like AI and 3D printing are presented.
