摘要
Leadership plays a key role in quality assurance efforts. Higher education institutions and faculties need to be led by leaders who can apply their leadership in quality assurance programs and activities effectively. This chapter discusses the engagement of leadership in higher education in Vietnamese quality assurance with more focus on the past five years. First of all, the chapter reviews the role of leadership in quality assurance procedures. Second, the paper reports leadership engagement in institutional quality assurance in Vietnam. Third, the study analyzes the engagement of the institutional leaders, deans and department heads in internal quality assurance activities such as participation in self-evaluation committees for institutional and/or program accreditation. Next, the chapter analyzes leadership engagement in external quality assurance, such as being the chairman or member of an external evaluation team during a site visit to a university. Moreover, the paper discusses the key areas of leadership engagement in quality assurance, including strategic planning, organization, human resource development, curriculum development, and performance evaluation. The final section of this chapter will propose recommendations for institutional leaders, deans, and department heads to have more effective leadership in higher education in quality assurance.
