摘要

Agriculture is undergoing a revolution thanks to the integration of nanotechnology, an innovative field that uses materials and devices at the nanoscale. Nanotechnology transforms agricultural practices and enhances precision agriculture by addressing food security, environmental sustainability, and effective resource management. Nanosensors are analytical devices designed to monitor parameters related to soil and plants. These nanoscale sensors provide real-time information on moisture, nutritional status, pH, and microbial activity. Their high sensitivity and specificity enable early detection of plant diseases and environmental stresses, enabling rapid interventions that minimize crop losses and maximize productivity. In addition, they simplify soil quality assessment and pollutant monitoring, encouraging sustainable and environmentally responsible practices. Nanofertilizers and nanopesticides improve the absorption of nutrients and agrochemicals, reducing losses and environmental impact. Nanoclays and nanozeolites improve soil water retention, which is essential in areas with water scarcity. These advances aim to increase agricultural production without expanding land or harming ecosystems. Nanosensors improve food safety and quality by identifying pollutants, toxins, and pathogens in processed products. Rapid analysis capabilities facilitate food safety monitoring, ensuring regulatory compliance and increasing consumer confidence. Adopting nanotechnology faces high costs, regulatory challenges, and a need for more awareness. Research aims to make these tools more accessible, especially in food-insecure developing regions. Nanotechnology is a game-changing innovation for sustainable agriculture. The approach optimizes resources, improves crop resilience, and ensures food quality, meeting the global population's needs while preserving the environment. In this chapter, we explore nanosensor applications in the agricultural system, highlighting the current understanding, significant role, and prospects of nanotechnology in this field.
