The chapter on self-regulation explains very clearly the meaning, definitions and components of self-regulation. It deals with various psychological processes involved in self-regulation. Theories of self regulation such as reinforcement theory, developmental theory, social cognitive theory, information processing theory are presented clearly. The significance of self regulation in academic success is given prime importance in this chapter by explaining the role of brain, various classroom practices etc. The age wise development of self-regulatory is explained. The importance of emotional regulation, attentional regulation, behavioural regulation and cognitive regulation in learning is presented. The characteristics of self-regulated learners such as goal setting and using many other Self-regulatory strategies with the utilisation of life skills are presented very well. In order to improve the Self-regulatory strategies and skillsvarious class room practices are explained very clearly with a number of illustrations. The role of Brain and self-regulation as well as assessment of self regulation is also emphasised in this chapter.
