School outdoor spaces play a crucial role in supporting children's physical activity and academic development. Recognized for their dual benefits, these environments offer significant potential to enrich learning experiences, particularly for young students. This study investigates design factors influencing academic learning and physical activity in school outdoor spaces, as perceived by primary school teachers. Insights from sixty teachers across thirty schools were gathered through questionnaires, revealing both limiting factors such as space constraints, inadequate amenities, and safety issues, and encouraging factors like well-planned layouts. This research underscores the importance of outdoor environments in educational development, emphasizing the need to address constraints and incorporate conducive design elements. Teachers’ perspectives are invaluable, providing practical and pedagogical insights that inform the creation of effective learning environments. Architects, school administrators, and designers can use these findings to enhance outdoor spaces that support both academic learning and physical activity for young children, thereby promoting holistic educational experiences.
