The increasing urbanisation and surging vehicular quantities are placing immense pressure on the ground transportation systems, propelling a shift towards urban air mobility (UAM) as a great potential for a fast, safe, and clean mode of transportation. In the modern design approach, human-centred design plays a pivotal role in ensuring passenger safety and comfort, influencing the adoption of urban air mobility (UAM) while extending well beyond the confines of conventional design paradigms. Given that Indian UAM represents an emerging field, a comprehensive survey that analyses both intrinsic and extrinsic factors of UAM aircraft design stands to wield a significant impact on the successful assimilation of this novel transportation mode. Factors including ergonomics and anthropometry influence comfort and safety within urban air mobility (UAM) aircraft design. The study strongly emphasises tailoring designs to human dimensions and movements within the cabin, which encompasses meticulous attention to seat dimensions, legroom, headroom, and the facilitation of movement. Such considerations aim to elevate passenger comfort and ensure safety during crucial boarding and disembarking procedures. The study aims to discuss various risks and challenges in UAM aircraft regarding the safety of Indian passengers and strategies to enhance their experience. Thus, the study provides a comprehensive review of current techniques to contribute to the successful implementation of human-centred design acceptance, safety, comfort, and ergonomics and offers valuable insights to stakeholders involved in shaping the future of aerial transportation.
