Advancing Sustainable Water Treatment: Repurposing Dental Ceramic Waste into High-Performance Membranes

Dental ceramic waste, characterized by its durability and chemical inertness, poses a significant environmental challenge. This study investigates the feasibility of repurposing these materials into advanced water treatment membranes. Leveraging their inherent mechanical strength, high-temperature stability, and chemical resistance, recycled dental ceramics offer a promising avenue for sustainable filtration technologies. We explore various fabrication methods, including traditional sintering and emerging additive manufacturing techniques, analyzing their scalability and environmental footprint. Potential applications encompass heavy metal removal, pathogen inactivation, and wastewater recycling. However, challenges remain, including ensuring consistent material quality, optimizing fabrication processes for cost-effectiveness, and scaling up production for widespread implementation. This research emphasizes the potential of integrating recycled dental ceramics into the circular economy, thereby contributing to both environmental sustainability and the development of innovative water treatment solutions.
