This chapter examines how social media and ICT can revolutionize place promotion, with a particular emphasis on Sanya's developing socioeconomic sustainability plans. Sanya, a popular tourist destination in southern Hainan Island, has used digital platforms like WeChat, Douyin (Tik Tok China), Xiaohongshu (RedNote), and Weibo to boost its local economy, draw in investment, and increase its worldwide visibility. This study explores how social media promotes local businesses, cultural heritage, and eco-tourism initiatives, thereby fostering inclusive economic growth. It does this by analyzing placemaking strategies, digital branding, and data-driven marketing. Sanya is now a leader in ICT-driven destination management thanks to the integration of AI, big data analytics, and blockchain technologies, which have further made personalized marketing, real-time visitor engagement, and secure digital transactions possible. But issues like the digital divide, algorithm-driven content visibility, and overtourism risks continue to be major worries. To ensure Sanya's long-term socioeconomic sustainability, the chapter ends by outlining potential future directions for ICT-led place promotion, such as immersive virtual tourism, AI-powered branding, and astute urban planning. Sanya's role as a model for sustainable digital placemaking is strengthened by its ability to strike a balance between economic growth, cultural preservation, and environmental resilience through the implementation of creative digital strategies.
